Welsh Factor Academy PDF Print E-mail

The Academy

The Welsh Factor Academy is a place where contestants or potential contestants can pick up ideas and tips to improve their skills. The following is a list of topics that each contestant will be taught to prepare them for a career at the entry level of Showbusiness. These events will be run on separate nights to the Welsh Factor competitions as these nights are less intense.

Preparation:

This section is for people who wish to enter any competition run by the Welsh Factor to be prepared to enable them to have a very good chance of progressing through the rounds of a competition. This will be a basic session outlining song choice, what to wear, how to present yourself and to get you ready for your first performance.

Designing your Act:

You will be taught how to design and programme your act from the selection of your songs as far as singers are concerned but for any other type of talent we will address their skills in keeping with their talents. For the purpose of this section we shall concentrate on singers, though if anyone wants to a comedy act we can accommodate them to.

This will involve making a list of songs that you like to sing and more importantly songs that you can sing because not every singer can sing every song. From here we will help you to place everything in order which we call “programming your act”. It is surprising that even so called professionals on the circuit today have not mastered this art so you will be one step ahead of them. We will also teach you what to say between songs as this again is a neglected area and you will benefit from this level of tuition.

Presentation:

This is an area that leaves a lot of Artist’s down in today’s scene but we will teach you how to stand out from the crowd because Entertainment is a loud and flamboyant business so we have to dress accordingly. There will also be tips in this section on how to use the stage and your microphone to good effect and so much more to mention which will be revealed in the academy.

Backing Tracks:

In this section you will learn how to select your personal backing tracks and which ones to select. You will be taught how to make up medleys of songs and how to prepare your introductions for any situation. There will be tuition on the various formats such as mindisc, computer, ipod or CD in placing your sets together. You will also be taught how to mix the tracks at the same sound levels which is a very important feature for aspiring Artistes.

Apprenticeship:

The Academy will in effect provide an apprenticeship for new and up and coming Artistes. An apprenticeship is a scheme where people who are learning the trade or business are mentored by an experienced professional for a set period of time while they learn their craft. Once they have obtained the necessary experience and confidence they will be advised to purchase their own sound equipment, taught how to use it and set it up and will perform a show in the Academy’s Graduation ceremony. On such an evening as this they will be presented with a certificate and a Graduation Award as a token of their completion of the Academy’s apprenticeship scheme.

Creative Shows:

This is another aspect of the Academy’s choice of career paths for aspiring Artiste’s. There are some who wouldn’t like to go it alone on the circuit but would rather be part of a company or troupe or variety show. We have mentors on board who are seeking aspiring artistes to be part of their team. This would involve attending some of the Academy’s classes but also rehearsing the format of a show with like-minded people. This scheme will allow variety acts other than singers an opportunity to be part of a show where they can utilise their talents in this kind of format. It is for this purpose the Welsh Factor was born – to give people of various talents an opportunity to play a part in the new Entertainment revolution.

Marketing and Promotion:

In any business it is important you make potential clients aware of your talents and availability. This means you have to market and promote yourself alongside the efforts of your Agent. It is surprising that many people come into this business believing that because they have the talent everyone will run around and do everything for them. This is not the case at this level and you must realise that Showbusiness at any level is a very hard working environment. This class will teach you how to market your talent and promote your act in a balanced and feasible way. It will teach you how to plan your career, your earnings and structures for a given time period. In short we will teach you how to make and keep customers, use the internet effectively and many more ideas and marketing tools that are coming on stream for your better good.

Politics and Media:

This is an area that is greatly neglected in this industry and this section will teach you how to handle every possible conceivable situation that may come your way in the course of your career. Through lack of this knowledge many people’s careers have been ruined because they made the wrong choices at the wrong time and didn’t have the wealth of knowledge that may have made them successful in the business. A lot of people who come into this business have amazing talent physically but leave themselves down when applying their mental attitude to the business. In short they have it physically but lack the mental strength to carry it through. This course will give you an education of how to handle the media and promote yourself at all times.

Your Agent:

This course will be run by three practising Entertainment Agents who will each be giving advice on what is expected from you and what you can expect from them. An Agent has the ability to open doors for your career and their sound advice will help to mould you into a marketable commodity that will be sought after for Functions and various events on the Entertainment Calendar. Agents are people who have their finger on the button and have the ability to read the market place to convey to you the best way to exploit your talents.

Merchandise:

This is a course that will help to maximise your earnings in knowing what kind of merchandise to invest in. Many Artistes will be working venues all over the country and only come home with the fee negotiated by their Agent. There is much more an Artiste can do to maximise their earnings far beyond this media and as an aspiring artiste you will be schooled in the merchandise arts.  More topics will be added to the syllabus of the Academy in the course of its progression but there has never been a better time to think of commencing a career in the Entertainment Industry.
